Floater Counselor Description
Qualifications:
- Desire and ability to be in Catholic ministry with children in camp setting
- Willingness to work on a team
-Enthusiasm, flexibility, a Christ-like attitude, and self-control
-Ability to accept supervision and guidance
Accountable To: Camp Director, Program Director
Responsibilities:
The purpose of the Floater Counselor position, is to support cabin counselors by spending time with
their campers during meal times, camp free time, during cabin bonding, and other various times
throughout the day by helping them to ensure that every individual campers is ministered to throughout
the camp week. Although the Floater Counselor will not be assigned to a particular cabin each week,
they are invaluable to our team in that they have the opportunity to serve every camper, in addition to
having the opportunity to serve each cabin counselor with some of the behind the scenes
responsibilities the team of counselors will share.
Leading Campers
1. Welcome the campers with Christian hospitality
2. Assist cabin counselors in supervising all aspects of the campers’ day including meals, rest hour, and
bedtime
3. Be aware of health and well‐being of campers in your charge
4. Guide campers to participate successfully in all aspects of camp
5. Assist those campers who may need help fitting into camp atmosphere
6. Assist counselors in getting campers ready for bed each night
7. Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns, helping with
conflict resolution if needed
8. Be where the campers are when on duty
9. Be sensitive to the needs and situations of campers. Be the eyes and ears to discover needs,
problems, etc.
10. Monitor safety and appropriateness of campers’ activities
11. Staff are on duty except during designated time off
Program & spiritual leadership
1. Commitment to Catholic Church in accord with St. Therese's Camp Statement of Faith
2. Help to establish an atmosphere of positive Catholic community among the camp family
3. Lead cabin devotions and small group times as instructed by senior counselor/program director/SC
4. Help campers to realize the camper goals of St. Therese's Camp
5. Carry out established roles in enforcing camp policies and procedures
6. Develop cabin or small group activity plans with participants as needed
7. Assist in leading or teaching an activity
8. Cooperate fully with the program and director
9. Encourage respect for personal property, camp facilities, and other campers
10. Set a good example for others by participating enthusiastically in camp programs, sharing in camp
chores, showing good sportsmanship, and being on time
11. Remember that your campers are the reason for St. Therese's Camp and YOU are the reason that
they'll come year after year. Make their time enjoyable and memorable.

- Ability to assist campers in an emergency
- Possess strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of campers
-Ability to communicate and work with campers and other staff
-Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations,
and apply appropriate behavior‐management techniques
-Attend staff meetings.
